Skateboarding - Beginner Skateboarding, Fall 25 Skateboarding for Beginners Skateboarding is many things – an activity, a creative outlet, a style, a culture, a way of life, and so much more. Perhaps more importantly, skating is for everyone. It doesn’t matter how old or how young you are, where you come from, or who you are, there is a type of skateboarding for you. These sessions are open to all ages. All you need is a skateboard and a desire to ride. Beginners will have little to no experience and focus on basics such as pushing, riding, turning, jumping on the board, riding ramps, and learning to ollie, the foundation of street skateboarding (def. a jump performed without the aid of a takeoff ramp, executed by pushing the back foot down on the tail of the board, bringing the board off the ground). The instructors always begin with technique before moving into applying those techniques with both group and individual instruction. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT -> Helmet -> Street skateboard setup: A street skateboard is required for the course. DO NOT buy the cheaper $20-40 boards available at Walmart, Target, Amazon, etc. They are not made well and will end up being very frustrating for a beginner. ***Reach out to the instructor with your child's age, shoe size, height, and weight. He will then provide you with a link to pro street setup in the $50-$75 price range.*** RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT -> Knee pads -> Elbow pads -> Wrist guards ***If you have any questions about equipment, email Scott for recommendations.*** Instructor’s Email: scott.wiener1(at)gmail(dot)com ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORScott Patrick Wiener is a Billerica resident who began skateboarding in 1988 and continues to skate street and mini-ramp because he just can’t stop. He previously held positions as an art educator at colleges and universities in Massachusetts, YouthBuild USA, an education-based non-profit, and now teaches grade 4-8 art at Hanscom School. After skating the Billerica Skatepark during COVID, he walked into the Billerica Rec. Dept. with a desire to serve the community through skateboarding. After 4 years of working together with residents and the town, their partnership brought about a new skatepark at the PHR complex. Working with his 10 y/o daughter, Lexie, as assistant, Scott is excited to bring skateboarding classes back to the refreshed Billerica Skatepark!

Kidding Around Yoga - Kidding Around Yoga, Fall '25 Kidding Around Yoga specializes in sharing yoga and meditation with children grades 2-5; however, it is definitely adaptable to expand to children of all ages.We use our own music produced by our founder, Ms. Haris Lender, games, as well as other tools and activities to help children focus their minds and stretch their bodies, all while having loads of fun. Yoga and meditation has been considered for a long time as a wonderful means of stress management. KAY uses a system based on the classical study of yoga and transforms it into an experience for children to both introduce them to yoga as well as inspire them to develop a practice and give them tools to take into adulthood. Kidding around Yoga (KAY) is focused on movement and postures geared towards the mind and body. Breathing techniques that help to relieve stress and sharpen foucus.and mindfulness exercises aimed at improving attention. In class, we will dance, march, jog, shake, skip, and limbo while practicing traditional Yoga poses, all while using our original music.About the instructor: Jane Lynch is a 200 hour certified yoga instructor who has been teaching yoga for just over 4 years. Her belief is that yoga is a personal journey for each one of us, and it should be easily accessible to every “Body”.

Slow Flow Yoga - Slow Flow Yoga, Fall '25 In a Slow flow class you will be guided through each asana slowly and mindfully. Even the transitions between the poses become like a graceful dance. This slow, deliberate practice will build a stronger body while filling you with a sense of freedom as you flow your way into a blissful state. You will learn how to deepen your breath and how to use your breath to anchor and ground your body, move energy and bring you to the very centre of the present moment. When you take time and slow down, you tap into your parasympathetic nervous system, your mind slows down, your muscles become supple and your breath deepens. This shifts your inner chemistry into balance and you will experience a state of peace, tranquility and calm.A Slow Flow class will leave you feeling strong, calm, balanced and grounded in your body; peaceful, tranquil and happy in your mind.About the instructor: Jane Lynch is a 200 hour certified yoga instructor who has been teaching yoga for just over 4 years. Her belief is that yoga is a personal journey for each one of us, and it should be easily accessible to every “Body”. Jane personally likes the slow flow type yoga where you can integrate your mind- body and breath during these practices.
