Pokémon! Learn to Play the Trading Card Game • Register • View Cart •

Pokémon is awesome. The trading cards are beautiful… but what do you do with them? You become a trainer and enter into battle!

This week-long session introduces participants to the Pokémon trading card game, what all those cards mean, and how the game is played. While incredibly fun, the game is also very educational, requiring reading and basic math skills in addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Once everyone has a handle on gameplay, students will play against each other and work on their strategies. 

As the players gain more experience from class to class, we will talk through some strategies for deck building. This means that anyone who already has cards can learn how to use them when building or updating a battle deck. If there is time and participants have collections, we can share them with each other!

What we will cover:

  1. Gameplay and strategy

    What we provide:
  • A 60 card battle deck
  • Card sleeves to protect the cards during game play
  • Damage counter dice
  • Paper play mats with instructions on gameplay
What you need:
A desire to learn and play the Pokémon Trading Card game

About the Instructor:
Scott Patrick Wiener is a Billerica resident who discovered Pokémon when his daughter started bringing home the trading cards. Together, they learned how to play the card game and have been doing so several times a week for over a year! Scott teaches art at Hanscom Middle School and hosts the Beginner and Intermediate Skateboarding classes during the spring and summer sessions at the Billerica Recreation Department.
