Beginner and Intermediate Skateboarding Register View Cart

Skateboarding is many things – an activity, a creative outlet, a style, a culture, and so much more. Perhaps more importantly, skating is for everyone. It doesn’t matter who, how old or how young you are, there is a type of skateboarding for you. These sessions are open to all ages. All you need is a skateboard, a helmet, and a desire to ride.
This 6-week program will introduce beginners to skateboarding and build on the skills acquired in the Skateboarding for Beginners course. Young people will be separated into two groups by skill level. Beginners will have little to no experience and focus on basics such as pushing, riding, turning, jumping on the board, riding ramps and learning to ollie, the foundation of all street skateboarding (def. a jump performed without the aid of a takeoff ramp, executed by pushing the back foot down on the tail of the board, bringing the board off the ground). Intermediate participants have a bit more experience focusing on tricks and continuing to develop their ollies into other tricks and application such as ollie 180s, pop-shuvits, kickflips, and grinds on curbs and ledges.
The instructors will always begin with technique with all participants before moving into applying those techniques with both group and individual instruction.
*If you have any questions about equipment, please make plans to attend our workshop on Saturday, September 25 from 1:30-3:30pm at the Billerica Recreation Department. This 2-hour session will introduce parents and young people to skateboards. We will cover terminology, how to choose the right board, safety equipment, all setup components, and building new skateboards together. There will be a t-shirt giveaway and the skateboards we build together will be raffled off at the end of the workshop!
**Please reach out to the Billerica Rec Department for more information!
